Son was very upset. It bothered her that she felt this attraction to him, but at the same time, she wanted to be with him. And well, by this point, it was very obvious that he felt something for her too. What she didn't understand was, if he felt so strongly about her, why was he still with Lizzy?

Erika and Son were getting ready to go out. They were in Cancun—no parents, surrounded by trusted friends, and in a way, celebrating Son’s birthday, as she had just turned 18. So, the general rule was that they had to have fun.

The girls arrived at the club with their other classmates; they were amazed by how many people were there, and the music was incredible. They managed to score a table near the dance floor. There were about 15 of them in the group, but Son couldn't concentrate. She really wanted to have fun, and it was the perfect night for it, but Rodrigo was the only thing on her mind. The truth was, she wanted to see him there, but there was no sign of him.

Between one shot and another, the party got even more fun. Erika and Son were dancing; they felt like they were in the prime of their lives—free, and anything was possible.

Late into the night, Son went to the bathroom. While she was there, her friends were organizing to head back to the hotel to keep the party going there. Erika looked for Son but assumed she had gone on ahead, so when Son returned, she didn't see any of her classmates. She checked her phone and saw a text from Erika that read, “Son, where are you? Anyway, see you at the hotel.” Son replied, a little angry: “I'm still at the club. I'll take an Uber and see you at the hotel. Thanks, ‘FRIEND’.”

Son was outside the venue waiting for her car to arrive when—as expected—Rodrigo appeared. He approached her and covered her eyes. Son screamed in fright, pulled away, and turned around. Rodrigo laughed and said, “Son, what are you doing alone? Don't you think it's a little dangerous?” Son, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, answered him, “Well, it’s not like I wanted to stay alone; my ‘friends’ left without me.” Rodrigo smiled and said, “Maybe it's destiny and we were supposed to meet tonight.”

Son looked into his eyes; between the alcohol and youth, she was fated to make an impulsive decision. Son smiled at him and said, “Okay, if it's destiny, what are we going to do?” Rodrigo, a little surprised by her answer, took her hand and said, “I think the best thing right now is to go get something to eat, and from there, we'll see where the night takes us.”

After they finished eating, they went for a walk along the coast, right at the water's edge. The weather was perfect—a bit warm with a comforting breeze. The moon was full, and without even realizing it, they were holding hands.

They talked about everything and nothing at the same time. Then there was a silence; they stopped and realized they were walking on the sand beside the beautiful sea. They turned to look at each other, their gazes locked, and slowly they leaned in, and their lips sealed their first kiss.

Son was enjoying the moment when she remembered that he still had a girlfriend, and what was worse, she was her best friend's sister. She didn't want to betray anyone, so she pulled away, let go of his hand, and turned toward the sea.

Confused, Rodrigo asked her what was wrong, to which Son replied, “Rodrigo, I told you already. I don't want to be someone's second choice. I don't want to betray anyone. If you say you like me, why do you insist on betraying your girlfriend and me?”
