They were already on the plane, the last passengers were boarding, and while Son was looking out the airplane window, she heard someone greeting her. "Hi Son, what a surprise to see you here. Erika, hi to you too." Son turned red. The two girls smiled. Erika asked Rodrigo what he was doing on the plane, to which Rodrigo replied, "Well, the same as you. I decided at the last minute to come on the trip. Let's just say a text message from last night made me change my mind." Son blushed even more; she wasn't sure if he was referring to her text message. Son stayed quiet and Erika said, "You're so weird." Rodrigo took his seat, which, by the way, was behind Son and Erika.
Son couldn't relax on the flight. What she thought was going to be a trip to meet people and forget about Rodrigo now seemed to indicate it was going to be the complete opposite. During the trip, she also couldn't stop thinking about what Rodrigo had said about the text message that made him change his mind. Could it have been her message that made him reconsider?
Upon landing, Erika and Son were more than ready to enjoy their trip to Cancun. It was Easter break, they were with classmates from school, and many more young people were going to be there. The possibilities were endless, but Son still had Rodrigo on her mind. For that reason, she was even more determined to enjoy her trip; she had to get him out of her mind for good.
While waiting for their luggage, Rodrigo approached Son and whispered in her ear, "I'm here for you." Son looked him in the eyes and blushed. She tried to ignore him and moved closer to Erika. Son was very nervous, and it bothered her that she couldn't talk about this with her best friend. How was she going to tell her that she was in love with her sister's boyfriend? Erika had a very good relationship with Lizzy and Son knew she would never forgive her for having feelings for Rodrigo, even less so if he returned them.
They arrived at the hotel (where everyone from their high school was going to stay), registered, and went up to their room. Erika told Son she was going to take a short nap to be ready for the night, to which Son said she was going to go for a walk to explore the hotel facilities. More than anything, she wanted to see where the bar was and what the pool was like. Son was determined to have fun and not pay any attention to Rodrigo.
The weather was excellent, so while Erika rested, Son decided to stay in the pool area, get a little sun, read her favorite book, and, why not, enjoy a piña colada. She was just starting to relax when she noticed someone settling into the lounge chair next to her, and of course, when she turned, it was Rodrigo. Son tried to act normal and said, "What are you doing here?" to which he replied, "The same as everyone, enjoying an excellent Easter break, ready to get some sun and see if I can win over the girl of my dreams. But I should tell you, she's a bit 'special'." Son didn't know what to say back, so she just said, "Well, um, good luck. I'm going to keep reading."
Rodrigo took off his shirt and went to the pool. Son only watched him out of the corner of her eye. She tried to concentrate on her book but couldn't, so she started gathering her things to go back to Erika. Rodrigo got out of the pool when he saw Son was leaving. He approached her from behind and whispered in her ear, "Son, I don't understand why you're resisting this attraction between us." Son turned around and, a little annoyed, told him, "Well, Rodrigo, what do you think I am? You have a girlfriend, who is my best friend's sister, and to be honest, I'm not here to be your second choice." She pushed him aside and went straight to her room.
